IWBNI it were possible to specify the horizontal position of a given measure-attached expression relative to the beginning or end of any of the following objects within the measure: the left barline, the clef, the canceled key signature, the key signature, the time signature, the music, the cautionary clef, the right barline, the cautionary key signature, the cautionary time signature, or the right end of the staff. As it is now, the horizontal position of a measure-attached expression is specified relative to the beginning of the music.

For example, this would be useful for specifying the position of the following types of expressions:

• A tempo indication that is to be left aligned with the time signature.

 
• An alternate time signature that is created as an expression and is to be left aligned with the normal time signature.

 
• A measure-attached expression such as a rehearsal letter that is to be positioned to the left of the beginning of the music. In this case the Distance from Beginning of Measure in the Measure-attached Expression Assignment dialog box would be a negative number (e.g. -120 EVPUs). As it is now, when an expression such as this is placed at the beginning of a system in a score that contains staves with various transpositions and clefs, the horizontal position of the expression relative to the left edge of the staff will vary over the set of extracted parts. This is due to the fact that the overall width of the material that precedes the music in a part is a function of the clef type and the key signature that is required for transposition.

This could be implemented by replacing the top section of the Measure-attached Expression
Assignment dialog box with the following controls:
