We say
we need to be
careful
when using
the acts of Jesus for
guidance on
how to act .

If I were to
say to a woman
seeking my help
" It is not good to
take the bread of
the children, and to
cast it to the dogs"
as Jesus does in
Matthew  1 5 . 26
it might be taken as
insensitive .

If I were to
say to a woman
"Give me to drink"
as Jesus does in
John  4 . 7
it might be taken as
impolite .

If I were to
say to a woman
"Martha , Martha" as
Jesus does in
Luke  10 . 4 1
it might be taken as
condescending .

If I were to
address my mother as
" Woman"
as Jesus does in
John  2 . 4
and
John  19 . 26
it might be taken as
disrespectful .

If I were to use a
scourge
to drive
people and animals
out of a temple as
Jesus does in
John  2 . 14 ‐ 1 5
it might be taken as
an act of
violence .

If I were to be
silent
in response to
a judge who
seeks my council as
Jesus is in
Matthew  2 7 . 1 4
it might be taken as
an act of
contempt of court .
